Damn hip

It started a few months ago. I was doing a sideways plank thing in the gym and it hurt so I stopped. But then it continued to ache. And I couldn’t sit cross legged on the floor for a bit. Getting up from a chair made the hip cave in a bit. At its worst I couldn’t lay on it in bed or on the other hip either. So I finally (after several months) went to the dr and he said rest would help it along with particular exercises. Diagnosis: trochanteric hip bursitis – swelling of the hip bursa.

I’m not going to the gym at the moment and it is settling a little already.

Unfortunately though, I did a big walk last week and felt it a bit on the way down, and then this week it has really put me off walking. We did half a walk near Nusfjord and I said to Susan to carry on but I really wasn’t enjoying it because of the hip. Damn! That afternoon we did more casual driving/looking around and the hip felt better within hours.

I really like a good walk and climb so this is not brill news. But I really don’t want it to become a lingering thing forever if I can help it though so – no more ‘big walks’, I will use the patches and medication for reducing swelling (not visible but bursa swelling inside) and just give the hip time to heal!
